Blastocyst Transfer

During natural conception, embryos arrive in the uterus 5-6 days after fertilization. With present-day IVF, embryos are routinely transferred back into the uterus 3 days after fertilization. Recent breakthroughs in the laboratory and developments in media culture have made it possible to grow embryos in vitro for up to 5 days. This is referred to as blastocyst development.

Growing the embryos to blastocyst stage provides the opportunity to choose the best developing embryos and transfer fewer embryos, both of which result in increased pregnancy rates and lowers the rate of multiple pregnancies.

At Barbados Fertility Centre, we will evaluate your individual case to assess whether you are a candidate for blastocyst transfer.
